I make great videos

My First Post

Today I set up a new WordPress blog. I’ll be practicing how you use it, but in future I hope to have lots of posts here, many of which will have some of my videos attached. Like this one:

  1. This kicks ass Thomas! You ought to tell us a little about how you did it – I hadn’t realised you added the effects frame by frame.

  2. How I made it hmm? Well, it first began by me finding some software on the internet to create lightsabre effects. What I found was a fairly good bit of software that some guy had made and put on the internet for download. I applied the effects onto some test footage I filmed on my camera and then put that footage onto the PC. The next step was to import this footage into the programme, called LSMaker, and then, to choose what colour my lightsaber was going to be. I chose blue, as always. the way the effect was applied was by clicking on the bottom of the blade, where it met the handle, and then right clicking at the top of the blade. After this was done, it was just a case of hitting the render frame button and doing the other 30 odd frames.

Now for the fight in the video, each cut lasted roughly a 15-20 seconds, usually more. This meant adding the effect to about 200 frames minimum. The fight was mainly choreographed as we went along. Then, there were some test shots, then when we (I) was happy with the result, we went onto the next cut.

I was putting completed cuts out at about 2 cuts per day, for about one weeks worth. Dew to my laziness, this stretched over a few months. One cut took me the better part of a day, consisting of over a hundred frames. It wasn’t untill nearing the end of completion, that I realised you could adjust the size of the glow, so you can tell the last few cuts that I edited.

With the effect applied, it was off to Movie Maker for the final composite.

Important things that came out of this video were, I put an amazingly good fight on youtube, and, I discovered that I do actually have some patience and am not all like Dad.:P
